The signings keep coming here at Kilwinning Rangers and the next two players to return for the next season, when football restarts, are none other than left full back, Sam McCloskey and forward, Ben Lewis. Both can be described as “veterans” despite being 25 and 28 respectively. Sam enters his 5th season and Benji returns for his 12th season in the blue and white hoops.
Here’s what the manager had to say about Sam, “Sam is now a veteran of the squad with this being his 5th season with us.
Crazy given his age. He’s been a consistently good performer for us and goes under the radar in many ways but in the big games, he’s been a great performer. He knows where I want him to improve; he has scored 2/3 goals in 5 years so I want more from him in an attacking sense.”
Sam is excited about his return, “The main reason I signed was to be with Benji, he’s an inspiration… In all seriousness, I’m buzzing to sign again for next season. I have enjoyed 4 years at the club already and I can’t wait for the new West of Scotland League to get going. I am looking forward to getting back with the lads and hopefully it will be challenging again this season.”
The Gaffer was equally happy with the return of Ben, “Ben had a great season for us and he’s been a mainstay of the team for the past 10 years. He’s finally got that confidence in himself. If he believed in himself the way the coaching staff and his team mates believe in him, he could have played full time football. We are now getting the benefit of that and I’m looking forward to Ben having a bigger influence on the team next season.”
Ben can’t wait to get going when football returns, “I am looking forward to the new league set up and starting my 12th season at the club. The club is doing great things off the park at the moment. Exciting times ahead not just as a player but as a Buffs Fan, too.”
