It’s a journey across the Clyde this weekend for The Buffs as they travel to face newly promoted Vale of Clyde
FC. Vale of Clyde have adapted fairly well to WOSFL First division life, coming away with 4 points from their first
3 games, the same amount as The Buffs.
The Glasgow side were founded in 1873 making them the oldest Scottish junior clubs still in existence. The club
celebrated great success in their early years, winning 3 Scottish Junior Cups over a 13-year period ranging from
1891-1904. Vale of Clyde play at Fullarton Park, a ground situated in the east of Glasgow.
Much like The Buffs opening day opponents, Ardrossan Winton Rovers, Vale of Clyde have earned themselves
back-to-back promotions over the last 2 years after winning the WOSFL Third Division in 2022/23 and finishing
second in last year’s WOSFL Second Division. Manager John Hughes has clearly found a winning formula at
“The Tin Pail” and will be looking to improve on a respectable start to this season with a win at home against The Buffs tomorrow. Vale of Clyde opened their season with an impressive 0-3 away win at Blantyre Victoria and
followed that result with a 2-2 draw at home to fellow newly promoted side Cumbernauld United. The Tin Pail lost
their first game of the season last weekend at the hands of Kilbirnie Ladeside. Tomorrow’s opponents have been
very busy during the summer window making several signings, most notably to Buffs fans goalkeeper Craig
Gordon who recently spent a few seasons in nets at Buffs Park.
Kevin Kelly’s side will be desperate to bounce back from last week’s humbling hammering at home to Rutherglen
Glencairn, but they will need to be more solid defensively and more creative when in possession to ensure a
positive result and performance. The Buffs will be hoping to build some momentum following a difficult start to the
season as they head into a fairly busy period with 3 crucial games in the next 7 days.
