Another crucial clash awaits Kevin Kelly’s Buffs as they head across the River Clyde to Petershill Park to face 4th placed Petershill FC. It was a tough one to take last time out for The Buffs as a second half comeback from Maybole left The Buffs empty handed as The Bole sealed an important 3 points in their relegation battle.
It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for ‘The Peasy’ so far this season, which leaves them sitting just outside the promotion places in 4th place on 40 points, 5 points behind The Buffs, with Kevin Kelly’s side also holding a game in hand on The Peasy. Steven McNeil has struggled to instil consistency into his side this campaign, with The Peasy currently on a 9 game run in which they have failed to win consecutive matches, winning 4, losing 4 and drawing 1. Last weekend The Peasy romped to an impressive 1-4 victory away at Kilbirnie Ladeside, which keeps them in promotion contention. Petershill Park has been far from a fortress this season for tomorrow’s hosts, with The Peasy only picking up 14 points from a possible 36 at home this campaign, a record which has them placed 12th in the division for home form this season. Their season-long poor home form has been highlighted in recent weeks with 4 home defeats on the bounce for Petershill, including resounding 2-6, 3-5, and 2-4 losses at the hands of Cumbernauld Utd, Rob Roy, and Winton Rovers. Alexander Cassells leads the scoring charts alongside Robbie Young, with both players netting 13 league goals this season, whilst Dominic Morgan sits just behind the forwards on 10 league goals for The Peasy this campaign. Bryan Boylan tops the charts for The Buffs on 12 league goals, with strike partner Jack McMahon in joint second place on 8 league goals, the same amount as Mark Lamont. The Buffs came out on top when the sides met earlier in the season, as Bryan Boylan scored a last-minute winner and bagged the only goal of the game to edge a Buffs win.
A win for The Buffs could see them reclaim top spot in the division but, more importantly, bounce back from what has been a poor few weeks for The Buffs, which has seen them lose back-to-back league games for the first time this season after going on a run of 5 consecutive victories. It’s pivotal that Kevin Kelly ensures his side begin to regain some form as they head into the business end of the season with 6 very difficult games left for The Buffs in their hunt for promotion.
Elsewhere in the division, Arthurlie travel to Ladywell Stadium to face Maybole Juniors, and St Roch’s welcome Blantyre Victoria as they look to bounce back from their midweek defeat at Meadow Park. The pick of the bunch on the card comes at Hamish B Allan Stadium, where it’s 3rd versus 1st as Rutherglen welcome Renfrew in a game which features the 2 in-form sides in the division.
