No video interview from manager Kevin Kelly this week however he did catch up with the KRTV team this morning to give his thoughts on yesterday’s 2-1 win over Thorniewood Utd. Larry Hendry and Jack McMahon grabbed the goals before a Ross Forbes strike ended up being a late consolation goal for the The Wood.
Kevin was gutted to lose Jack MacCalman who ended up getting transported to hospital to get a bad cut above his eye stitched up.
“Players to a man were excellent today. To lose big Jack so early in the game and have to shuffle the pack a bit, it’s a credit to them on how focused they were to be able to deal with that and go in 1 up at the break.
The manager was complimentary of Adam Coakley’s side however he was impressed with his sides reaction in the second half.
“Credit to Thorniewood though as they really made us work for our goals and when you are able to have a chat at half time to regroup and get the perfect reaction so early on getting the second goal it puts them on the back foot and I felt we had a good foothold on the game.“
The Buffs didn’t panic despite the late goal.
“Even when we lose the goal so late on. Earlier in the season there may have been a little bit of panic but not today I thought we still tried to win the ball in high up areas rather than sit in. Saunders, John and Blacky really help us with this in the way we train Tuesday Thursday and that allows the players to implement it on days like today with the same instructions coming from the side of the pitch.”
Kevin thought his young side coped incredible well .
“Overall really happy and we move onto Monday with another win behind us. I thought again the younger lads on the pitch really showed a grown up attitude to the game and done really well for us. A difference in shape and personnel can sometimes upset the rhythm but with our experienced players behind them and trusting them it’s really allowing them to flourish and you can see it with the togetherness in that dressing room. “
We look ahead now to Monday and hope to see a big crowd travelling up the A736 in what will be an important week for the side
“A performance I hope everyone connected with the club can be proud of and hope they continue to back us in what is another really tough task come Monday night at Arthurlie.”
